What is a Bike Stand?
A bike stand also known as bike rack is a device used to hold your bike and keep it in place. It is where bikes are securely attached. Indoor bike racks are used for private bike parking such as in homes and other offices, while outdoor bike racks are used for commercial purposes. Other racks are also used to carry bicycles in a vehicle for out of town trips or camping. The grid style rack is appropriate only for those bicycles that are parked for a short period of time. This is because it doesn’t allow the bicycles to be locked that give thieves a chance to steal the bikes.
Bike racks can be mounted in different ways; they can be securely planted to the ground or attached to the walls of a building. They are also made from different materials with different finishing touches. Some are made from stainless steel, recycled plastics and thermoplastics. The most important features of bike racks are their durability, appearance, ability to withstand the altering weather conditions, functionality, and safety to the environment.
When installing a bike stand, it is important to make lots of consideration and think how the device will be useful and safe not just for the bike itself but as well as for other vehicles and people around. Bike racks should be placed to an area where it is visible to the riders. Hidden areas or places that are not visible to the public will give the cyclists hesitation to lock their bicycle there, mainly because thieves can easily take things in an isolated place.
While bike racks must be put in visible areas, it is also an important factor to consider that it should be placed to an area that will not cause traffic or block the paths of other people. There should at least enough space so that riders will still comfortably maneuver their bikes without hitting other vehicles and people. Also, another important factor to consider is they must be mounted in a place that will protect them from any weather conditions. Aside from preventing the racks from rusting, riders will also be encouraged to park their bike there for longer periods.
